I went to the Olafur Eliasson exhibit at the Museum of Contemporary Art the other day. My God! What a genius that man is! And with such simplicity, too. He is a real craftsman–his pieces are extremely mathematical and clean. With just the simple use of mirrors, lights and metal, he created some incredibly thought provoking beautiful work. One piece that stuck out in particular for me was simply a room with monochromatic lighting. Peering into the room, you don’t get what the big deal is. But when you step inside it, your entire world becomes sepia toned. The art is not on the walls for other people to look at–the spectators are the art. It’s a piece that asks you to look at each other–at strangers–and see each other in a (literally) different light. A difficult thing to describe, this piece. One that is far better when experienced first hand.
It made me think of our sessions, my pets. Yes, we CAN use fancy gadgets and theatrics–in fact it can be a lot of fun!
